Elevators in private homes
Conveyances in private residences are exempt from the Idaho Elevator Safety Code Act (Idaho Code 39-8606), so there is no state permit or inspection. Local building permits may apply.

Installer licences
Companies: Not confirmed. The Idaho Elevator Safety Code Act (Idaho Code Title 39, ch. 86) regulates conveyances, and we found no elevator contractor license.
Mechanics: Not confirmed. We found no separate elevator mechanic license. State electrical licensing may cover the wiring.
Elevator code adopted: ASME A17.1-2022.
Our reading of Idaho’s own statutes and agency pages, checked September 2026. Your city or county may add its own permit and inspection rules – ask your local building department. This is not legal advice.
