How we list installers

The rules every listing follows – who is listed, in which states, and what a paid placement can and cannot change.

Who gets listed

A company is listed when its own website shows that it sells and installs home elevators – hydraulic, cable, chain, traction, pneumatic or through-floor – and shows a real local business: a phone number and a base location (a street address, or the town it says it is based in). Directories, review sites and manufacturer dealer locators help us find names, but they never count as proof.

We leave out lead-generation and referral networks, franchise pages that say elevator availability varies by location, companies that only sell stair lifts, platform lifts or commercial elevators, manufacturers that sell only through dealers, and any site we cannot confirm.

Which states a company is listed in

A company is listed in a state when it has an office or showroom there, or when its own website names towns in that state that are within about 150 miles of one of its offices (a straight-line distance). A home elevator needs a service visit every year, so we list companies close enough to come back.

A state name in a list on a company’s website is not enough on its own. Where a company qualifies, its listing shows the towns it names in that state.

How we check

Every record is read from the company’s own website and checked a second time by a reviewer who tries to prove it wrong. Details that cannot be confirmed are left blank rather than guessed. Each listing shows the month it was last checked; we re-check every listing at least every six months, and a company whose website is down on two checks in a row is removed.

What a listing shows

Office locations, the towns the company names, the elevator types, services and brands it lists on its own site, its published phone number and a link to its website. We do not publish ratings, reviews, rankings or “best” lists.

Order and paid placements

Free listings are shown alphabetically, and that order is never for sale. Companies can pay for an Enhanced profile or the one State Spotlight in a state; both are labelled on the page. Paid placements are offered only in states where the company passes the rules above. Paying never adds a state, never changes the A to Z order and never changes what we say about a company.

Quote requests

When a homeowner sends a quote request, we pass it to listed companies that serve their area. Where a state has a Spotlight, quote requests from that state page for areas the Spotlight company serves go to it. We do not sell homeowner details to anyone else.

Our decision

Whether a company is listed, and in which states, is our decision alone, made under these rules. Being named on a company’s website, or asking to be listed, does not guarantee a listing in any state.

Corrections and removals

Any company can ask us to correct or remove its listing through the form on the installer page. Removal requests are honoured without questions.

The guides

Every figure in our guides carries its publisher and date. We quote published numbers as they are and do not average or adjust them. Where a primary source exists – a statute, an agency page, a code – we cite it.
